Gold Coast

Gold Coast is the perfect backdrop for laidback living, boasting around 300 days of sunshine per year and a favourable sub-tropical climate. Life focuses around the city’s endless golden beaches, picturesque rivers and canals. You’re never more than a few minutes from the water on the Gold Coast.

A leading tourism, business and events city, Gold Coast is home to over half a million people. Having started out as a playground for wealthy and influential people of Brisbane, it is still Australia’s playground. Today it’s a World Surfing Reserve, but it’s hard to believe that once upon a time this surf mecca had no reputation as a surf coast.

The region became a fashionable resort town in the late 19th Century as hotels and motels popped up along the coast. The train line was extended from Brisbane to the city’s southern end, taking Brisbane residents there in droves to escape the summer heat on weekends and holidays. Fast forward to the 1940s and the area was a real estate goldmine in the post-war property boom. The term “Gold Coast” was coined and in 1959 the Queensland State Government proclaimed it a new local authority.

Spanning 57 kilometres of coastline, Gold Coast suburbs each have their own character. The northern calm Broadwater gives way to the entertainment pulse of the central coastal suburbs. Surf beaches stretch on as you drive south. From east to west, retreat from the water to lush suburbs that extend right up into the hinterland of Tamborine Mountain.

Summers are long and hot and daytime winter temperatures are mild-to-warm, making this the place for those who don’t like to layer up. Enjoy being outside all year round with the vibrant coffee and surf culture, or experience a thriving music scene putting the city on the map.

Gold Coast’s property market remains strong as continued population growth and employment drive people here to experience affordable luxury living and a more relaxed, friendly lifestyle. Infrastructure projects like the light rail extension to the Gold Coast International Airport are adding to the global edge this city now has.
